Trump Hand Delivers Daines’ Letter to India’s Prime Minister on Behalf of Montana Agriculture

Montana Senator Steve Daines recently asked President Donald Trump to hand deliver a letter to India’s Prime Minister Modi and President Trump did exactly that. Last week, Senator Daines sent a letter to President Trump pushing for greater opportunities for Montana’s pulse crop farmers in ongoing trade negotiations with India. Daines gave the following statement.

“I sent a letter to president Trump asking him to hand carry it to Prime Minister Modi of India to reduce tariffs in India and to help our pulse crop producers across Montana,” Daines said. “We are the number one pulse crop producing state in the nation. Good news! The President just sent me a picture of himself, Prime Minster Modi, and this letter that he hand delivered to Prime Minister Modi. Thank you, President Trump.”

In the letter, Daines wrote that Montana and North Dakota are the number one and two producers of pulse crops in the United States and India is the world’s largest consumer of pulse crops. Daines says unfair Indian tariffs on pulse crops have substantially harmed producers who face a significant competitive disadvantage when exporting to India.

According to Daines, economic cooperation between the U.S. and India would be mutually beneficial to both American producers and Indian consumers.
