Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 14, 2024, the Missoula Police Department announced that they have been made aware of recent threats of violence targeting Missoula area schools and other schools statewide. According to Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett, these threats have been disseminated through social media channels, causing understandable concern among students, parents, and the community at large. 

“In response to these threats, the Missoula Police Department is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of students and staff within our schools,” Bennett said. “Extra patrols will be deployed, and there will be an increased officer presence at the affected schools while this incident is thoroughly investigated.” 

 MPD said the safety and well-being of our students and educational staff are of utmost importance. Bennett added that they are treating these threats with the seriousness they deserve and are working diligently to identify the source of these messages and assess their credibility.

“No specific information indicating an imminent threat in our community at this time, we urge members of the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information to law enforcement immediately,” Bennett said. “We encourage students, parents, and school staff to follow any safety protocols provided by their respective schools and to report any concerns they may have.” 

MPD is working closely with school administrators and other law enforcement agencies to address this situation swiftly and effectively.
