Missoula Firefighters Rescue Bridge Jumper From the River
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On the evening of September 28, 2026, Missoula Fire Department (MFD) C-Shift personnel successfully rescued an individual following a critical incident near the river on the Reserve Street bridge. According to C Shift Battalion Chief Jeff Kroll, first responders were dispatched after reports indicated the individual had jumped from the bridge.
“The individual fell approximately 30–45 feet, landing near the water’s edge by a small island,” Kroll said in his statement. “Missoula Police Department officers made initial contact and maintained communication with the patient until MFD’s first responders could safely access the patient.”
Given limited access and low-light conditions, Kroll said specialized rescue personnel responded.
“Firefighter/Paramedics accessed and stabilized the patient while providing medical care and prepared for safe extrication from the riverbank,” Kroll said. “Due to the terrain and safety considerations, crews utilized a technical rope rescue system to lift the patient to the bridge deck. The patient care was transferred to Missoula Emergency Services (MESI) personnel who were waiting on scene for transport.”
Kroll added that the patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care.
“The Missoula Fire Department would like to extend gratitude to all agencies who assisted during this complex rescue,” said Kroll.
