Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On August 9, 2024, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to a welfare check in the roundabout at Van Buren Street and I90. Officers were informed via dispatch, that a truck was partially blocking traffic on the roundabout and the reporting party stated the driver had blood coming from his head.

The reporting party further advised that the passenger stated the driver was intoxicated and violent. The reporting party observed the driver take off walking northbound on Van Buren Street and the passenger went southbound in a wheelchair with a white husky. An officer responded to the area and observed the male driver sitting under a tree in Gregory Park.

The officer contacted the male, who was later identified as 32-year-old Zackary Reinhardt. Reinhardt had a large amount of blood coming from his head, down his face, on his tank top, and hands. The officer asked the medical team to respond and look at Reinhardt’s injuries.

The officer noticed Reinhardt appeared to be slurring his words, had red and watery eyes, and smelled strongly of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from his person. An officer walked over to Reinhardt’s truck and observed numerous empty bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages inside.

At some point during the investigation, officers were standing nearby as Reinhardt was being evaluated by medical. An officer overheard Reinhardt stating he “had been drinking all night.” At this time, it was determined that the officer would process Reinhardt for DUI.

The officer instructed Reinhardt in the standardized field sobriety tests. The officer did not instruct in the HGN test, given Reinhardt’s significant laceration/head injury. The officer observed 7 out of 12 indicators of impairment during the other two tests. Reinhardt was then read the PAST Advisory and provided a PBT sample of 0.314, which is nearly four times the legal limit. Reinhardt was placed under arrest for DUI and read the Implied Consent Advisory.

During the reading, Reinhardt consistently interrupted the officer and stated he was not going to listen, while he attempted to shut the door to the patrol car. According to court documents, Reinhardt became upset and uncooperative. Reinhardt ultimately consented to a blood draw and he was taken to St. Patrick Hospital.

Reinhardt has three previous DUI convictions. He is currently being charged with felony DUI and violation of an order of protection. His bond was set at $25,000.
