Drunk Driver Tries to Buy More Alcohol in Missoula

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 29, 2026, at approximately 12:35 AM, an employee of Dale’s Dairy on Clements Road reported to 911 that a female customer appeared to be intoxicated and was trying to buy alcohol. The complainant suspected that the customer drove to the store and observed her return to a silver Volvo in the parking lot, parked in a handicapped spot.  

A Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived a few minutes later and located the vehicle parked in the described spot. As he approached the vehicle, a female stepped out of the driver’s seat. He told her the business was concerned about her intoxication and her attempt to buy more alcohol.  

The female did not have a driver’s license, but identified herself as 49-year-old Brandi Steiger. She said she was driving for a friend because her friend was not in good shape to drive. Her friend then came out of the store and sat in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The deputy asked Brandi if she had anything to drink. Brandi said she had drank that morning and had three Rolling Rock beers. She also admitted that she drove to the store.  

The deputy noticed that her eyes were watery. Then he asked her to perform standardized field sobriety tests to see if she was safe to drive. Brandi scored 4/6 on the HGN test, 6/8 on the Walk and Turn test, and 3/4 on the One Leg Stand test.  

She was read the PAST advisory and agreed to provide a breath sample. The sample read .23 BAC. Brandi was placed under arrest for DUI. She was then read the Implied Consent Advisory and asked to provide a breath sample at the jail. She agreed. At the jail, her sample on the Intoxilyzer was .181 BAC.

Brandi is currently being charged with driving without a valid drivers license and felony DUI, fourth offense.
