Missoula County officials are seeking public comment on ways to reduce the overcrowded conditions at the jail during an open meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at the Double Tree Hotel.

Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Brenda Bassett said officials are seeking comments on what she called 'over-incarceration'.

"Sheriff McDermott is really committed to finding other alternatives to people being jailed," Bassett said. "We're excited to hear what the public has to say. We want to create a master plan, and they'll hear evidence-based tactics regarding mental health and chemical dependency options. Once we get our master plan, we can start things in motion."

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel. Also attending will be County Commissioner Cola Rowley and Missoula City Councilor Emily Bentley.
