Avalanche Danger Still Considerable in Montana
Avalanche danger remains considerable in the mountains of southwest Montana and the area around Cooke City near Yellowstone.
The risk remains moderate in northwest Wyoming including the mountains around Jackson Hole.
A snowstorm prompted the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center to post an avalanche warning for southwestern Montana on Christmas Day.
The Bozeman Chronicle reports the downgraded avalanche danger rating of "considerable" means avalanches might not happen spontaneously but could occur when they're triggered by something, such as a person skiing or snowmobiling.
Forecasters predict another storm will move through the region and drop up to a foot of snow in the mountains over the next day or two.
