Woman Involved in High Speed Chase Appears in Missoula Justice Court [WATCH]
A Florence woman, 36 year-old Nicol Renee Anthon, appeared in justice court via video from the Missoula County Jail on Monday afternoon.
Anthon was involved in a high speed chase on Saturday afternoon, where she allegedly fled from police after a traffic stop in front of the Clark Fork Market, and was eventually apprehended in the parking lot of the Missoula Federal Credit Union on Brooks Street.
Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mac Bloom asked Judge Marie Anderson for a high bail, primarily because the state considers her a flight risk.
"Judge, in this case, the state is requesting $50,000 bond," Bloom said. "The defendant tried to flee from police officers and ended up crashing her vehicle, so the state believes she does constitute a flight risk.Given the nature of the charges, the state feels there is a danger to the community as well."
Charges against Anthon included felony criminal mischief, forgery and counterfeiting, fleeing from a police officer, and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
The public defender at the jail told Judge Anderson that Anthon has some mental health issues, exemplified by the fact that she was wearing a vest designed to keep her from harming herself. He said that Anthon was also on felony probation out of Ravalli County, and was caring for three children.
Anderson set bail at $25,000. Anthon's next court appearance will be June 17.
