Public land managers are scrambling to find out more about white nose syndrome. The disease has killed millions of bats in the Northeastern United States. This has the Forest Service considering closing caves under its jurisdiction starting May 1st. It appears that a fungus is responsible. Non game and threatened species Section Manager for Fish Wildlife and Parks, Lauri Hanauska-Brown  says the closure would allow biologists to determine if conditions are right for the disease in Montana.
