Safe Kids Missoula will be presenting their annual Safe Kids Fair this Sunday from noon till 3:00 p.m. on the campus of Community Medical Center.

Operations and Program Manager Kira Huck describes the activities that will take place at the Safe Kids Fair.

“We’ll have the smoke safety trailer with the fire department,” she began. “We’ll also have information about medicine safety, outdoor recreation safety, home safety and the Montana Highway Patrol will be there with their MIDAC vehicle and Lifeflight will be making a special landing at 1:00 p.m.”

Huck said one of the new displays will be especially relevant to young drivers.

The Arrive Alive Tour is new,” she said. “That’s being brought by the Missoula County DUI Task Force. It’s a really cool high tech virtual reality simulator where they can experience impaired or distracted driving, such as texting and driving. It’s in a controlled environment, but it allows them to see the potential consequences of that. You do have to be 14 to take part in that, so we’re really targeting the parents and caregivers who come, as well as teens who may come out.”

As well as being fun and informative for children, Huck said the real purpose of the event is to inform parents and caregivers about child safety.

“We really encourage anyone who has children in their lives that they may care for to come out,” she said. “That could be parents, grandparents and caregivers. There’s actually a lot of information for parents and caregivers so that they can take steps in their homes to keep their kids safe, but please bring out the kids because there’s a lot of fun things for them to do.”
