Wrong-way Drunk Driver Faces 13 Felonies in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On June 7, 2026, the Montana Highway Patrol dispatched a Trooper to assist a mother and three young children experiencing car trouble on Interstate 90 near mile marker 113. The trooper found the broken-down vehicle on the shoulder of the westbound lanes. The trooper called for a tow truck and placed the young children with their blankets, shoes, and a stuffed animal in the back of his cruiser.
As the trooper waited with the family on the side of the road, he noticed passing westbound vehicles driving erratically. The trooper then observed a wrong-way driver pass his cruiser and continue heading east in the westbound lanes of traffic. The trooper pulled the three young boys out of his patrol car and told their mother that he would be back for the family.
The trooper executed a U-turn and headed east down the westbound lanes in pursuit of the wrong-way driver with his lights and sirens activated. After approximately one-half mile of travel, the trooper slipped his patrol vehicle through a break in the highway’s cable safety barrier and continued pursuing the driver as he headed eastbound on I-90 and the offender continued east in the westbound lanes.

The trooper accelerated and caught up to the Buick sedan, later determined to be operated by 46-year-old Megan Miller. At 1:19 into his dash camera video, the trooper documented Miller’s course of travel. Miller operated her vehicle at a speed of approximately 50 miles per hour while heading in the wrong direction towards numerous cars and trucks.
The trooper determined that he was justified in using force against Miller, if necessary, to save approaching motorists. The trooper crossed onto westbound I-90 ahead of Miller’s vehicle, positioned his cruiser on the shoulder, and headed down the highway with his forward-facing patrol lights and all available sound tools as he drove towards the oncoming wrong-way offender.
If Miller failed to yield, the trooper was prepared to execute a U-Turn, follow her down the highway, and disable her vehicle by crashing into it in accordance with his PIT maneuver training. Fortunately, the cruiser’s array of powerful lights caused Miller to yield to the side of the Highway.
The Trooper Makes Contact With Miller
The trooper approached and opened Miller’s driver’s side door. He observed that Miller was wearing no pants. He immediately noticed the strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. Miller’s eyes were watery and bloodshot. She slurred her words and began to passively resist. The trooper demanded that Miller exit the vehicle. She repeatedly refused. The trooper grabbed her left arm to gain control of her, but she pulled away from him. As he continued his effort to extract her, she grabbed the steering wheel to defeat his effort to remove her from the car.
The trooper eventually gained control of Miller, removed her from the vehicle, and handcuffed her. Once handcuffed, Miller refused to stand up. The trooper was concerned about her safety as she lay in the lane of travel with active traffic passing just feet away from them at 80 miles per hour. The trooper pulled Miller out of the lane of travel to the left shoulder to get them both out of harm's way.
At one point, Miller slipped a handcuff, forcing the trooper to drive her to the ground and re-secure her. A deputy arrived and assisted the trooper. Working together, the law enforcement officers forcibly stood Miller up and carried her to the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

The registration for Miller’s vehicle returned inactive. The trooper entered Miller’s vehicle to move it off the shoulder and turn it towards the correct direction of travel. When doing so, he realized that she urinated in the driver’s seat.
Miller refused to submit to a blood test after receiving Montana’s Standard Implied Consent instruction. While the trooper transported Miller to St. Patrick’s Hospital for a blood draw, she demanded his badge number and threatened to sue the Trooper for police brutality, claiming that he dragged her naked on the roadway. The trooper obtained a search warrant for Miller’s blood. The blood sample was drawn by St. Patrick’s hospital staff and secured as evidence.
Miller is currently being charged with 13 counts of felony criminal endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, and DUI third offense.
