The real change not spare change program has wrapped up it’s 11th season. Over $13,000 was collected in carafes from  various downtown business , along with the power of 10 match from the Henry Bennett Sayer Fund. This year the money  will be given to the new homeless outreach teams, which is  a project of the Poverello Center. Operations Director for the  Business Improvement District Rod Austin says  the homeless outreach teams have made a real impact on the streets. (My interview with Mr. Austin is attached below) The outreach team members offer emergency medical supplies, snacks and clean socks in efforts to build trust with people resistant to services. Austin and members of the mayor’s downtown advisory commission, will present a check to the homeless outreach teams tomorrow(9-28-11) on the lawn at the United Way of Missoula County office at 534 n. Higgins ave. At noon.
