The smoke that you will see today is planned...The Missoula Ranger District will conduct prescribed burning Today approximately 60 acres in the Blue Mountain area near the Motorcycle trailhead off the main Blue Mountain Road. The lower gate on the main Blue Mountain and trails near the burn area will be closed for public safety and will open once fire operations are complete. Fire managers will be posting signs on the main Blue Mountain Road to advise recreationists. They expect to ignite the burn at mid-day.

Smoke from the burn is likely to be visible from Missoula and drivers should use caution on the main Blue Mountain Road during these fire operations.

The burn is intended to reduce the potential for future wildfire, along with achieving ecosystem restoration objectives. Ignition will take place only if operational safety, air quality parameters, weather and fuel moisture conditions can be attained.
