Mother’s Day – Insane Inflatable 5K and Sunshine – A Great Day In Missoula
Nearly 2,000 people, men, women and children, gathered at the University of Montana Golf Course on Sunday for the 2nd annual Insane Inflatable 5K Fun Run.
The event, put on by Townsquare Media, brought together serious runners, but mostly fun-loving people who came together as families or created teams, some with special costumes to negotiate the course that featured large inflatable obstacles that had to be run over and through to get to the finish line.
Emcee Billy Jenkins of KYSS-FM, said there was a sizable crowd even at the very first flight of runners was set to begin.
"Hundreds of people are already lining up to go over these huge inflatable obstacles, it really is Missoula's most fun, fun run," Jenkins said. "You're climbing over these big inflatables and then you have to dodge these huge inflatable balls flying at your face. It's hard to describe, but it really is the most fun race Missoula will see all year."
The first female to cross the finish line was 12 year-old Juel Steen, who said she warmed up for the Insane Inflatable race by running the 5k at Saturday's Riverbank Run.
"This is supposed to be my easy, fun run, and then I decided to go out for the winning t-shirt," the breathless 5th grader said. "I had no idea how tough that would be,the final obstacle was the hardest, just because I was so tired."
The first race in 2015 was held on the campus of the University of Montana, but Sunday's race instead was on the UM Golf Course.
