Say What? Montana’s Winter Weather on Display in Middle of May
What in the world is going on with our weather right now? It's the middle of May and we're talking about snow in Missoula! Of course, I don't mean heavy snowfall and accumulation, but it's still snow! I heard the forecast on the radio this morning and it mentioned a mix of rain and snow for the early part of the day. I actually kind of chuckled at the idea because it seemed like we were finally past all that. But I left the building to go on a coffee run and sure enough, tiny little flakes were drifting in the breeze. I'm pretty much over it and ready for better weather to take over. Which makes me really dang happy that I don't live in Cooke City, Montana. One look at yesterday's weather and you would think it was the middle of December!
It's easy to forget that other places are still seeing decent amounts of snow!
I saw the following video posted on Facebook yesterday. If you threw in a snowman and somebody singing the words "walking in a winter wonderland" in the background, you could have probably fooled me and said the video was taken on Christmas morning. But the video was captioned with "Welcome to the 12th of May in Cooke City, MT."
Cooke City is at an elevation of over 7,500 feet so it's not a huge oddity to see snow this time of year. For me, it's just wild to imagine living somewhere that is still having crazy snow days as we start to close in on June!
It was pretty fun to read people's comments
I was skimming through comments that were left on the video and there were plenty that loved it and an equal amount that said "no thanks." I liked the one that said it's going to confuse the bears and they'll go back into hibernation. And my favorite was the one that said "It's May...May rain, May snow, and it may be cold!"
Bundle up out there! Or, enjoy your shorts and flip-flops - who knows what tomorrow's weather will bring.
