Missoulian Rescued from Frozen River in Utah
CASTLE DALE, Utah (AP) — Authorities in Utah say they helped rescue a Montana rafter who got stuck when the river froze.
The Deseret News reports Blake Miller of Missoula, Mont., was trying to raft from Green River State Park in eastern Utah to Lake Powell and had been checking in with his father twice a day using a GPS tracker.
Officials say Miller's father called the Emery County Sheriff's Office Thursday, saying his son had been checking in from the same location for a week.
A deputy found Miller in good condition in the Three Canyons area, but found the rafter couldn't hike out.
Authorities say a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter retrieved Miller and flew him to the Green River Airport, where he was picked up and taken to his vehicle.
