Missoula Man Charged with Felony PFMA and Assault with a Weapon
42 year-old Stephan Spencer was arrested on Saturday afternoon and charged with two felonies, partner of family member assault and assault with a weapon.
Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh told KGVO News on Monday that police officers made contact with a woman who was apprehensive about meeting her boyfriend in that she felt she would be in danger.
“We made contact with an adult female who reported that she had been in a dispute with her current boyfriend who she identified as 42 year old Steven Spencer, and she became concerned for her safety if he were to arrive there,” said Welsh. “She actually prepared herself by taking out a firearm that she had for home defense.”
Welsh described what occurred when Spencer arrived at her home.
“He came in the house with a key that he had, and the two immediately began arguing,” he said. “The female stated that Mr. Spencer got very close to her into her space and began shouting in her face. Apparently he grabbed her firearm at one point that she had sitting on a coffee table, and she reported that he pushed her several times and also pointed the handgun at her.”
Welsh said officers were able to contact the suspect at a separate location.
“Mr. Spencer also called 9-1-1 to report the incident and officers were able to speak with him at a location that he identified,” he said. “At the conclusion of the investigation Mr. Spencer was placed under arrest and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center for offenses related to the incident that include partner or family member assault and assault with a weapon.”
Spencer appeared in Missoula Justice Court before Judge Alex Beal where bail was set at $25,000.
