Man Threatens Missoula Resident With a Gun Over Yard Work Dispute
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 3, 2024, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office corporal was dispatched to a report by John Doe that a male, later identified as 41-year-old Christopher Smollack, came to his residence in East Missoula and threatened him with a firearm. On his way, the corporal contacted Doe who reported that Smollack came over to his house to collect money for yardwork that he was to perform.
Doe reported that the yardwork was not completed, so he would not pay him for the work. Doe said he began to close the door when Smollack pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at him. According to Doe, Smollack said, “He was the wrong person to be messing with.” Doe also reported that the gun appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun and possibly a 9mm.
After Smollack produced the gun, Doe shut the door and yelled that he was going to call 911. Smollack stood there for a minute before crossing back across the street to a residence.
When deputies arrived on scene, they staged themselves down the road from the residence. At one point, Smollack left the residence in a maroon Toyota pickup. The Corporal physically signaled to Smollack to stop.
Smollack ultimately came to a stop and was given commands to shut off the truck. According to court documents, Smollack was not compliant and began yelling at the deputies on scene. A seargent was ultimately able to remove Smollack from the truck. Smollack was secured in the back seat of the corporal’s patrol vehicle.
