Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 21, 2026, at approximately 11:15 pm, the Missoula Fire Department (MFD) responded to a reported structure fire at 534 Eddy Avenue. Battalion Chief Jeff Kroll provided the important details.

“Initial dispatch information indicated flames showing from the structure and a report of an individual exiting through a basement window,” Kroll said. “A total of five engines and one ladder truck responded to the incident, along with assistance from Missoula Police Department (MPD) and Missoula Emergency Services, Inc. (MESI).”

When crews arrived, Kroll said they encountered smoke and fire conditions originating from the basement.

“In a coordinated effort, Engine 111 conducted a primary search in the basement, Engine 121 searched the first floor, and Ladder 148 searched the second floor,” Kroll said. “Due to reports of a possible occupant inside, firefighters prioritized an aggressive primary search of the entire residence while simultaneously working to contain and extinguish the fire.”

During these searches, Kroll said crews encountered fire and smoke on all levels of the structure, indicating extensive fire spread.

“A Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) was assigned upon arrival of additional resources to ensure firefighter safety,” Kroll said. “Due to the extent of the fire and the labor-intensive overhaul, crews rotated frequently through operations to ensure overall safety of personnel and civilians. No injuries to civilians, pets, or firefighters were reported.”
