Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - The Missoula County Attorney’s Office charged 14 new criminal complaints this week, which is one more than last week and right around the weekly average. According to County Attorney Kirsten Pabst, four of those cases involved some form of violence.

“In one, the defendant was charged with intimidation after making a false bomb threat,” Pabst said. “In the endangerment category, we charged three new cases. Two people were charged with endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly leaving drugs, including meth, fentanyl, and paraphernalia, within reach of a toddler and exposing the child to methamphetamine chemicals, allegedly.”

Pabst said her office also charged five new property crimes.

“One of the burglary cases involved breaking into a dispensary,” Pabst said. “One of the theft cases involved the allegation that the defendant stole an RV from one of our local dealerships. We charged one new drug case involving methamphetamine and then a fugitive from justice.”

Pabst mentioned that her office was also busy this week wrapping up the Covey trial.

“A Missoula jury convicted Charles Covey of deliberate homicide for killing, with a blunt instrument, one of our homeless transients who was bound to a wheelchair,” Pabst said. “The jury deliberated for two to three hours and came back with a guilty verdict. I just have to give a huge shout-out to my team, especially the leader of this team who was my lead attorney Mac Bloom and his co-council Kaitlyn Creighton. They did an amazing job.”

Pabst said it was an all-hands-on-deck project and that everyone in the office took part in some way to support this effort.
