The American Association for State and Local History has chosen  the  Historical Museum at Fort Missoula for the Leadership in History Award for  their  exhibit “When the Mountains Roared: The Fire of 1910.” 100 applicants applied for the Award of Merit. Executive Director of the Museum Robert Brown says the award is the most impressive acknowledgment for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history.

Brown  says the exhibit stretches the bounds for what they have done in the past; including  visuals, fake flames, sounds of firefighters  at the front line and the smell of  fake smoke to make it feel like you are really there.  The award will be presented at a special banquet in Richmond, Virginia on September 16th .
