Clinton Man Captured After 120 MPH Car Chase – Nearly Hits Several Vehicles On I-90
It took two sets of spike strips to stop 43 year-old Anthony Wallace as he fled form Montana Highway Patrol Troopers down I-90 and onto Reserve Street on Tuesday morning at speeds of over 120 miles per hour.
The last time troopers experienced that kind of resistance to arrest was just after a Broadwater County deputy had been shot and killed on May 16. However, after putting several other drivers in danger, including a motorcycle, Wallace was finally apprehended without further incident.
At his Missoula Justice Court appearance on Wednesday afternoon, Deputy Missoula County Attorney Lacey Lincoln asked Judge Marie Anderson for $35,000 bail.
"The defendant had a no-bond warrant out for his arrest," said Lincoln. "When the officers located his vehicle and attempted to stop him he led them on a high-speed chase reaching speeds of over 120 miles per hour. The chase started in Bonner and ended up on the Reserve Street off ramp when the defendant crashed when the defendant crashed into a guardrail."
Lincoln explained the criminal endangerment charge.
"During the pursuit, the defendant forced other vehicles off the road, nearly rear-ended an SUV, and swerved toward a patrol vehicle," she said. "Given the fact that he has a no-bond warrant for his arrest and he was aggressively fleeing from law enforcement while completely disregarding the safety of other motorists, it shows that he is an extreme flight risk and a danger to the community."
Judge Anderson set bail at $35,000 and remanded Wallace back to the Missoula County Jail.
