After years of financial troubles, ZooMontana received notice, about two weeks ago, that they have lost accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. But the zoo remains open. Since the zoo is no longer accredited, they can no longer house animals that are on loan from other facilities. Jeff Ewelt is wearing two hats, one as the Director of the Beartooth Nature Center in Red Lodge and the Interim Director of Zoo Montana in Billings, Jeff talks about some of the major goals of Zoo Montana.

Ewelt says they are looking forward to hearing from the public.

Ewelt says the zoo can reapply for accreditation in a year, but that process takes 6 months, so it will be at least 18 months before the facility regains accreditation.
