Some forest service recreation sites  will be temporarily closed for beetle spraying. The need for this is driven by the current mountain pine beetle epidemic, which has heavily affected many areas throughout southwest Montana and has already impacted some individual trees within popular recreation areas.  A Forest Service crew will be spraying Carbaryl to protect individual pine trees from mountain pine beetles.  Hilltop Campground and Madison River Campground will be closed on Mon. Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. and re-open on Wed. Aug. 24 at 8 a.m. Signs will be posted at locations where work is occurring with information on the chemical used and the closure period.
