Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 24, 2023, Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a fast-food restaurant in the 8700 block of US Highway 93 for a report of a male who was disorderly. Employees advised that the male was using profane language and yelling at employees while getting in their faces. Employees further advised that the male was intoxicated and left in a green Honda Civic. They also provided a license plate.

A Deputy located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle driving on Highway 10 West and turning south bound on Reserve Street. The deputy observed the vehicle stopped at a green light for four to five seconds before accelerating despite no other vehicles in front of it. Court documents indicate the vehicle was driving at least 10 miles per hour under the speed limit.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop, approached the vehicle, and was able to eventually identify the driver as Scott Darkes. The deputy observed that Darkes eyes were watery and bloodshot. The deputy also smelled the odor of alcohol coming from Darkes’ vehicle. When asked about consumption, Darkes advised he “was at the casino” and had “two beers”.

The deputy had Darkes exit the vehicle and perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Darkes displayed 12 out of 18 clues of impairment. Then the deputy attempted to read Darkes the PAST advisory. However, Darkes was confrontational refusing to let the deputy finish reading the advisory. Darkes was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.

While at the detention facility, the deputy applied for and was granted a search warrant by the Honorable Jason Marks. Darkes was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital for a blood draw. Darkes remained confrontational to both the deputy and St. Patrick’s Hospital staff. Darkes was restrained when the blood draw was taken.

A review of Darkes’ criminal history shows at least three prior DUI convictions. He is currently being charged with felony DUI and disorderly conduct. On May 26, 2023, Darkes made his initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court and his bond was set at $25,000. On May 30, 2023, at around 9:21 a.m., Darkes was released from the Missoula County Detention Center.
