Two escapees from the Butte Pre-Release Center were apprehended Thursday night in Missoula

Sergeant Jonathan Stineford with the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office said authorities were notified that the two escapees were in the Missoula area. They were identified as 26 year-old Shaun Michael Church, and 22 year-old Daniel Shea Deming.

“We served a search warrant on 7th Street looking for the two escapees out of Butte,” Stineford said. “They were identified as Shaun Church and Daniel Deming. Church was arrested at that location, and then got Deming several hours later a little bit farther south on Reserve.”

Stineford said it was unclear how both Church and Deming got to Missoula, but both were on foot when they were apprehended.

“I’m not sure how they got from Butte to here, but both fled on foot, one was apprehended on scene and the other fled farther. No one was injured.”

NBC Montana reports that according to the Montana Department of Corrections, Deming was originally charged with forgery out of Lewis and Clark County, while Church was originally charged are burglary out of Beaverhead County in June 2011.

Deming was a laborer at CNR painting and Church worked at Butte Insulation.

Stineford said both men are currently in the Missoula County Jail on escape charges.

“Both will probably have to make a court appearance here, and then be extradited back to Butte,” he said.

The Missoula County Jail Roster states that both men will appear in justice court at 2:30 on Friday afternoon.
