Drunk Driver Nearly Hits Missoula Deputy Head-on

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 17, 2026, at approximately 12:52 AM, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop of a Cadillac Escalade on Higgins Avenue after observing the vehicle driving over the yellow line and failing to maintain its lane. The deputy observed the vehicle cross over the yellow line, in the direction of a head-on collision with his patrol car.  

The deputy identified the driver as 31-year-old Anthony Wolff. Wolff provided identification and admitted that he was driving without a license. The deputy later confirmed Wolff’s license was revoked. The deputy noted Wolff was slurring his words, had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person, had bloodshot and glassy eyes, and noted Wolff’s movement was slow and deliberate.  

The deputy asked Wolff to exit the vehicle, and during this time, Wolff admitted to driving under the influence, stating he had consumed alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening. The deputy instructed Wolff on the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and noted the following indicators of impairment: 6/6 HGN, 5/8 walk and turn, and 2/4 one-leg stand.  

Wolff was read the PAST Advisory and provided a sample of 0.199. Wolff was placed under arrest and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility, where he provided two breath samples: 0.175 and 0.170. Wolff also spontaneously stated many times that he was driving drunk and wanted to take accountability for his actions.

According to court documents, Wolff has two prior DUI convictions as well as a pending DUI in Missoula Municipal Court. He is currently being charged with felony DUI, which is a fourth or subsequent offense. His bond was set at $10,000.
