Missoula Officer’s Traffic Stop Leads to Capture of Wanted Individual
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 5, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer was patrolling near the intersection of Wyoming Street and Russell Street. The officer was stopped at a red light, facing westbound, when he observed a silver Toyota Scion traveling northbound on Russell Street.
The officer saw that the traffic light had turned yellow prior to the vehicle entering the intersection. The officer noted that the vehicle had plenty of time and distance to stop prior to entering the intersection, but the vehicle's front bumper crossed the white "stop line" as the light turned red.
It appeared to the officer that the vehicle was traveling over the posted speed limit of 30mph based on his training and experience. The officer entered Russell Street and followed the vehicle. The officer paced the vehicle at approximately 38mph, 8mph over the posted speed limit.
The officer activated his top lights to initiate a traffic stop and noted the vehicle continued northbound, failing to stop at a red traffic light located at Broadway and Russell Street before finally pulling over. The officer approached the vehicle and found the driver to be 55-year-old Tina Setters.
The officer learned via dispatch, that Setters had two felony ($50K) arrest warrants and an absconding warrant. The officer had Setters exit the vehicle and she was placed under arrest.
Another officer conducted a search incident to arrest. During the search, the officer found a small ziplock baggie with a white crystalline substance in Setter’s front pocket of her coveralls.
The officer advised Setters of her Miranda rights and upon inquiry, Setters agreed to speak. Setters admitted that the substance was methamphetamine. The substance was later tested utilizing the TruNarc, which provided a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.
Setters was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. She is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs. Her bond was set at $50,000.
