Mountain Lions

A mountain biker near Whitefish had a close encounter with a mountain lion and her cubs last week, and even though no one was hurt, Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Education and Program Manager Dylan Tabish reminds hikers and mountain bikers to be aware of wildlife confrontations.

There have been several mountain lion sightings near school bus stops in western Montana, especially near the Florence Carlton area, a sight that is not uncommon in winter.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks euthanized two more lions in the Grant Creek area.

Bears are still causing problems in some Missoula neighborhoods.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is looking for volunteers to form a mountain lion work group to assist in the development of harvest quota recommendations for the 2014-2015 lion hunting season in west central Montana.

UPDATE 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14 Missoula School District One officials notified parents in the Cold Springs School area that someone in the area had spotted three mountain lions in the Arcadia Street area, not far from the school. Director of Technology and Communications Hatton Littman said Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks was notified.

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks officials knew other animals than wolves would be caught in wolf traps, and so far, they have been proved right.
