UPDATE 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14 Missoula School District One officials notified parents in the Cold Springs School area that someone in the area had spotted three mountain lions in the Arcadia Street area, not far from the school. Director of Technology and Communications Hatton Littman said Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks was notified.

A school parent in the South Hills neighborhood notified school officials that they had spotted a bear on Monday, October 7, so the district sent out a message to parents about the sighting.

With general rifle hunting season due to start on October 26, even officials at Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks are having problems getting information about federal public lands, due to the partial government shutdown.

September marks the beginning of the long-awaited hunting seasons in Montana. In fact, several seasons are already underway.

UPDATE - 8:00 a. m. Friday, July 19. The Mineral County Sheriff's Department has evacuated over 100 homes near the West Mullan Fire. The American Red Cross has opened an emergency evacuation center at the Superior Elementary School. Strong winds have pushed the fire to over 4,000 acres. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks continues a very popular campsite reservation program, enabling families to have a guaranteed space at many of Montana's state parks.

Rain soaked many who set out to start the 2013 Montana fishing season, but that did not deter thousands of men, women and children who set out to fish the state's lakes, rivers and streams.

Unseasonably warm weather and recent heavy rain have brought Missoula area rivers and streams to very high levels. Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Fishing Site Access Coordinator Chet Crowser said on Tuesday, that its just too risky to be out on the water floating or rafting right now.
