The Montana Department of Transportation has announced that Interstate 90 has reopened after a fatal accident that occurred early Wednesday morning near Tarkio in Mineral County.
A fatality has been reported, and one firefighter has been injured while responding to multiple accidents on Interstate 90 west of Missoula near Tarkio due to black ice conditions.
The National Weather Service reports overnight freezing rain has resulted in black ice on all roads around western Montana, making for a slow and difficult commute.
Monday night, December 23, Missoula and much of western Montana experienced temperatures just warm enough to allow freezing rain, which has turned into ice overnight into Tuesday.
