Suspicious Pickup Sparks Drug Arrest in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On or about April 15, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a call for service for a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot. The reporting party had been notified by a tenant that a black pick up with a topper had been parked in the back lot for the previous five days. The caller reported that one of the windows was broken out and he was unsure if the vehicle was stolen or not.
The officer arrived and located the black Nissan pickup truck. While on the scene, the officer observed an older white Ford pickup truck pulling into the lot behind her. The officer did not observe a license plate on the front of the pickup truck, but did observe a male exit the pickup.
The officer exited her patrol vehicle and asked the male if the vehicle was his. The male stated that it was his vehicle and he had just had a set of keys made. The officer asked the male his name and he responded, Rodney Sherman. Sherman stated that the battery was removed from the truck and he had brought the truck to the lot on a dolly to get it re-keyed, but ended up getting the dolly jack-knifed four or five nights prior, so he ended up leaving it there.
The officer was informed that Sherman had a warrant for his arrest for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The officer informed Sherman that she was going to empty his pockets before having him sit in her patrol car. The officer found a wallet that contained two small plastic baggies of methamphetamine.
The officer asked Sherman if the substance was methamphetamine and Sherman stated, “most of its fricking crystallized Nicotine…It was probably a little bit of meth. You’ll just have to test it.” Sherman went on to admit that he had used a small amount of methamphetamine earlier in the day. Upon inquiry, Sherman consented to a search of the pickup.

During the search of the truck, the officer located a pill bottle containing blue oblong pills stamped with “10” on one side and “b972” on the other. According to court documents, the officer identified the pills as Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine 10mg, a Schedule 2 controlled substance. The officer noted that other common names for these pills include Adderall, Adderall XR, and Mydayis. The officer utilized the TruNarc to test the suspected methamphetamine, which provided a presumptive positive result of “methamphetamine.”
Sherman was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. He is currently being charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and his bond was set at $10,000.
On March 31, 2025, Sherman stole a camper and was charged with felony theft and failure to display license plates.
