Shot in the Head? Questions Abound in Missoula Parking Structure Shooting
An assault in Missoula’s Central Park Structure parking garage early last Saturday has led to a lot of confusion for police detectives, despite a number of witnesses at the scene. The assault occurred around 2:00 in the morning and involved a handgun, which police have recovered along with a spent shell casing.
A victim received a head injury, but Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says it is unclear if the injury came from a gunshot or not. According to Welsh, many of the signs of a gun shot wound were not applicable in this case.
"On our arrival we determined that one male had suffered an injury to his head and he was subsequently transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. The gist of the story is a little sketchy... we had a lot of people at the scene at the time of the initial response, unfortunately, with that many people you get that many reports of what happened."
If the victim was shot in the head, it was likely a glancing blow or ricochet as he left the hospital a few hours later and was able to provide a description of the assailant.
"He was able to speak with us later that morning," Welsh said. "His description was very simply: a black male adult around six feet in height and, I believe, he described the suspect as having longer hair on the top and shaved on the sides. Another witness described the suspect at around 5'8".
Police are searching for surveillance video of what happened, but Welsh says that at this point, the chance of finding footage is slim. Now Police are asking anyone who may have been near the parking garage or may have seen the attack to describe what happened. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Guy Baker at 396-3217 or Detective Arianna Adams at 552-6318 with details.
