Missoula Weekly Crime Report: Lowest Amount of Cases All Year

The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed just five felony complaints this week, which is the lowest weekly crime number of the entire year. County Attorney Kirsten Pabst said that is the good news, but she said there is bad news as well.

“The bad news is that we are at 599 as of yesterday and at that rate, we will hit 800 by the end of the year, which is 60 more than last year,” Pabst said. “The rate that we are going at doesn’t look, but after this last week, we will take what we can get.”

Of the five cases that were charged this week, Pabst said one was a partner or family member assault.

“In that case, the bystander observed the defendant allegedly striking his girlfriend of three years,” Pabst said. “We charged an aggravated animal cruelty. In that case, the defendant allegedly killed his neighbor’s cat. We charged an aggravated DUI in which the defendant was allegedly driving with a very high BAC.”

In addition, Pabst said her officer also charged a theft third offense.

“In that case, the defendant allegedly befriended an elderly person under the guise of being a care giver, Pabst said. “The victim was taken to the hospital for a medical emergency and the defendant allegedly remained at the victim’s residence and stole several items. When the victim returned from the hospital, a wallet, bank card, and cell phone were missing. The defendant allegedly made several purchases and withdrawals on that stolen card.”

Finally, Pabst said they charged one person with criminal possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute.

“In that case, the defendant was arrested for being a probation absconder,” Pabst said. “In a search incident to arrest, law enforcement located four baggies of heroin. Law enforcement also located a baggie of methamphetamine and a loaded syringe of meth.”
