Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 14, 2025, a Missoula Police Department officer was dispatched to a residence on Dearborn Avenue following a report by Montana Probation and Parole that they found illegal drugs and firearms during a probation search. When the officer arrived on scene, he learned that 20-year-old Juan Hernandez-Bailey lived at the residence.

When P&P knocked on the door, Juan’s brother immediately went downstairs. Juan, instead of coming to the door, went to his room. P&P continued to knock on the door and Juan eventually came to the door and opened it. Due to their suspicious activities, both Juan and his brother were detained by probation.

A probation search was initiated, and inside Juan’s bedroom, P&P located a white crystalline substance in a clear bag, a white crystalline residue in a clear bag, a digital scale, and a rolled-up dollar bill.

The officer read Juan his Miranda Rights, and Juan informed the officer that the white crystalline substance was Ketamine and that Ketamine was his drug of choice. According to court documents, Juan also informed the officer that he consumes Ketamine by snorting it.

From his training and experience, the officer is aware that probationers will often use Ketamine to get high because it does not show up on drug tests. Juan confirmed to the officer that he used Ketamine for that reason and that he had recently consumed Ketamine two days prior.

P&P also searched Juan’s brother’s bedroom because the door to it was open, and the door did not have a lock on it. Inside the bedroom, P&P located an unsecured shotgun and a .22 caliber pistol. Juan told the officer that he knows he is not supposed to be around firearms, and that if they are in the home, they must be locked up. Both Juan and his brother stated that the firearms belonged to his brother.

Following the conclusion of the P&P search, the officer collected the evidence, and Juan was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. The officer utilized a TruNarc scanner to test the white crystalline substance which tested positive for Ketamine. The officer photographed the evidence and booked the Ketamine, scale, bag, and dollar bill into evidence.

Juan is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
