In a dramatic turn of events, the Montana State Senate voted 24 to 26 NOT to confirm former congressman Pat Williams to the Montana Board of Regents.

Democrats on the floor spoke of Williams' dedication to education, and his many years as a teacher and advocate for education throughout his political career. Republicans, while praising Williams' former service, pointed out that everyone makes mistakes, and that Williams' years as a regent were full of controversy and misstatements regarding the state budget and The University of Montana football team.
