Industrial boilers create toxic air pollution from the burning of coal, oil or gas and are one of the worst emitters of mercury nationwide. Recently the Environmental Protection Agency has released new health protections , for air pollution, from these boilers. Staff Attorney for Earth Justice, Jim Pew explains the new rules.

There are currently 6 industrial boilers operating throughout Montana. Industrial boilers are on-site power plants used to generate heat and electricity at large industrial facilities. Reducing their emissions of fine particulate matter- a mix of really small pollution particles that are dwarfed by a grain of sand - could save nearly 5,000 lives every year and also prevent 3,000 heart attacks.
