MPD Arrest Man for Using a Knife During a Grocery Store Robbery
At around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Missoula police officers responded to the report of a disturbance at a grocery store in the 1000 block of East Broadway. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, a male was causing a disturbance at that location.
“When they arrived, the made contact with the male in front of the store and identified him as 37-year-old James Ford,” Welsh said. “The officers learned that Mr. Ford had actually attempted to commit a theft inside the store and he brandished a knife while doing so.”
Officers seized Ford’s knife and it was secured as evidence, but that was not the only thing he had in his possession.
“According to the complainants at the store, when he was confronted, he did possess several items that he had not paid for,” Welsh said. “He discarded those as he was leaving the store. He actually threw one item at a customer before going outside of the entry vestibule.”
According to Welsh, no injuries were reported. Ford was arrested for robbery, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the Missoula County Jail.
