Lewis and Clark County officials have issued an arrest warrant for an Irish man who police say wrote bad checks in Montana totaling more than $55,000 and then fled to Colorado.

Authorities are also seeking to extradite Kevin Barry McAuley from Colorado where he was being held by federal officials following his arrest on Sept. 1 for being in the United States illegally. On Thursday he pleaded guilty in federal court in Colorado to that charge.

McAuley was sentenced to the time he's served since his arrest, and that he was turned over to the Department of Homeland Security for deportation.

It's unclear if McAuley will return to Montana because immigration officials want to deport him.
