The Montana Board of Horse Racing's only full-time employee has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Montana Department of Livestock confirmed Friday that the board's executive secretary, Ryan Sherman, had been placed on leave but declined to discuss the reason for the suspension.

Christian Mackay is the secretary of the state Department of Livestock and says he will be handling Sherman's duties for now. Sherman is the board's lone full-time employee and In the past, seasonal staff has been hired to help with horse races in the summer.

Sherman could not be reached for comment.
