After four months of sliding prices, gas pumps in Montana began to see an increase this past week.

"The average price in Montana is on the upward trend for the first time in a long time, but not by much," said gasbuddy.com Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskowski. "The state average prices is $1.92 a gallon, it's up about a penny from a week ago. This is comparable to what we're seeing nation wide, we are likely to see these prices start to climb fairly consistently."

Prices in Montana vary wildly from place to place, with the lowest prices found in major cities.

"Right now, we see the lows in Billings at $1.73 a gallon, in Helena the low is at $1.82 and in Missoula the low is at $1.84 at Costco, Laskowski said. "On the high end, there is a store in Sweet Grass at $2.45 a gallon."

Laskowski says prices have likely bottomed out and are probably at the lowest we will see until next November or December.
