On Thursday, Missoula County Sheriff Carl Ibsen and Missoula Chief of Police Mark Muir are set to release a new report on the issue of child abuse and neglect in the state of Montana. The report is part of the Fight Crime: Invest in Kids initiative which seeks to draw attention and funding to abuse prevention programs. One of the startling statistics to come out of the report is that in 2010, over 1400 children suffered from abuse or neglect in Montana, which equates to roughly 25 incidents of abuse every week that year. In the following interview, Chief of Police Mark Muir describes Montana's statistics and the potential solutions for child abuse.

One of the main programs supported by Fight Crime: invest in kids is a voluntary home visiting service, which is reported to cut child abuse and neglect by as much as 50 percent. The report will be presented at Watson's children's center in Missoula at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday the 31st.
