Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - I spoke early Wednesday morning with Montana’s senior Senator Steve Daines about a number of issues, starting with the breakneck pace at which President Trump has filled his first 100 days in office for his second term.

Daines Remarks on the First 100 Days of Trump's Second Term

“I've never seen anything like it, Peter,” began Senator Daines. “It's like every hour is a new day here in Washington, with the velocity of change that President Trump is leading with. You think about the fact that in just 100 days, President Trump has delivered win after win; border crossings an all-time low, unleashing American energy, and he's kicking Biden's woke policies to the curb.”

Daines praised Trump’s cabinet picks for helping him to advance his conservative agenda.

“The quality of leadership he has in place across his cabinet, with folks like Doug Burgum at Interior, folks like Chris Wright at Energy, and by the way, both have close ties to Montana. Both love our state. Both have been here frequently. Both are individuals I know very, very well, but issues like energy and then interior in our public lands and BLM are very essential to what's going on in Montana.”

Daines Defended President Trump's Tariffs

I spoke with Senator Daines about the issue of tariffs and how they are affecting Montana’s economy.

“What this is all about is President Trump aggressively going after so many unfair trade practices,” he said. “You look at the fact that 95 percent of the world's consumers live outside the United States, we've got to have fair access to these markets for producers if we're going to continue to grow our businesses. I'm encouraged now there are some 70 countries that are coming to the table. They want to work with President Trump to reduce tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers.”

Daines Compared Europe's Energy Woes to America's Abundant Energy

The subject of Montana’s all-of-the-above energy portfolio brought this comment from Senator Daines.

“You take a look at what happened in Europe this week, when Spain and Portugal had these massive power outages,” he said. “In fact, Europe was very, very close to going completely dark this week. It was probably a miracle that it didn't, but Spain and Portugal did, and why? Because they let the environmentalists run their energy policies. It was run almost all on renewable energy, and the problem with renewable energy is that it’s an intermittent source of energy. The sun doesn't always shine, the wind doesn't always blow.”
