Officer Gets Hit: Missoula Police Ask Drivers to be Cautious
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 17, 2024, the Missoula Police Department informed the community of two separate crashes that occurred the day before involving vehicles and pedestrians. Police Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett explains.
“The first incident occurred just after 12:30 PM in the 3100 block of American Way, where a pedestrian in a crosswalk was struck by a vehicle,” Bennett said. “Emergency services quickly responded, and the individual was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
According to Bennett, the second crash happened just after 7:00 PM at the intersection of South 3rd Street West and Reserve Street.
“While investigating a separate vehicle crash, one of our officers was struck by a vehicle due to icy road conditions,” Bennett said. “The officer received prompt medical attention, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and has since been discharged to recover at home.”
Bennett said these incidents serve as a critical reminder to drive cautiously and adjust your speed to match road and weather conditions.

“Slow down, especially in areas with pedestrians or icy roads, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and emergency scenes, and stay alert to avoid distractions behind the wheel,” Bennett said. “Use extra care during winter weather, as icy or snow-covered roads can lead to sudden hazards. Your attentiveness keeps everyone safe—thank you for driving responsibly and looking out for one another!”
By staying cautious and prepared, you can help ensure a safer winter driving experience for yourself and others on the road.
