Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 10, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., a Missoula Police Department officer observed a silver Honda Accord drive through the intersection of Broadway and Higgins at a high rate of speed. The officer began to follow it. At the intersection of Broadway and Ryman, the Accord drove through a red stoplight.

The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the Accord. The Accord turned southbound onto Orange Street but did not yield to the officer. The Accord reached speeds of up to 60 miles per hour before eventually turning onto S. 5th Street and coming to a stop on the side of the roadway.

The officer ordered the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Alex Cree Medicine, out of the Accord at gunpoint. Cree Medicine opened the driver's door and became verbally combative, saying, “What did I do? What did I do? Come on p***y.” Cree Medicine then closed his car door and drove the wrong way down S. 5th Street at speeds up to 54 miles per hour.

The officer observed multiple vehicles pulling off the road to avoid head-on collisions. Cree Medicine continued at speeds of up to 55 miles per hour before stopping in an alleyway and running out of his Accord on foot. Cree Medicine left the Accord in “drive,” so it continued forward and struck another vehicle.

Cree Medicine fled into a residence. The officer and backup officers chased Cree Medicine to the doorway. Cree Medicine attempted to push against the door so the officers could not enter to take him into custody. However, the officers managed to force the door open and handcuff Cree Medicine. Cree Medicine yelled and cursed at the officers during the arrest.

The officers took Cree Medicine outside and began to investigate him for DUI. Cree Medicine smelled strongly of alcohol. According to court documents, he admitted to drinking two fifths of Black Velvet the previous night. Cree Medicine exhibited 6 out of 6 clues of impairment on the HGN Test. The officer declined to take off Cree Medicine’s handcuffs to allow him to perform the other field sobriety tests given Cree Medicine’s earlier proclivity to flee.

Cree Medicine provided a breath sample of .219 on a PBT unit. He refused to provide a blood sample, so the officer obtained a search warrant. After completing a blood draw at St. Patrick's Hospital, the officer took him to the Missoula County Detention Center.

Cree Medicine is currently being charged with felony criminal endangerment, obstructing a peace officer, aggravated DUI, reckless driving, and fleeing from a peace officer. His bond was set at $100,000.
