Missoula Man Gets Six Years for Trafficking Methamphetamine
A Missoula man, 58 year-old George Carleton, was sentenced on March 29 in Missoula Federal Court for trafficking methamphetamine in the community.
The Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana issued a press release detailing the sentencing.
Carleton pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute meth in December, 2021.
Court documents state that the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office supervised a controlled purchase of nearly 54 grams of methamphetamine from Carleton. On June 2, members of law enforcement searched Carleton’s shop and found numerous firearms, and nearly six pounds of meth. Six pounds is just over 22,000 doses.
The case was initially investigated by the Missoula High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tara Elliot.
The case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, through which federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement investigate violent crime driven by methamphetamine trafficking, armed robbery, offenses using firearms and violent offenders with outstanding warrants.
