A 35-year-old man has acknowledged killing his ex-girlfriend and her 15-year-old daughter just east of Kalispell on Christmas Day 2010. Tyler Michael Miller pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of deliberate homicide stemming from the shooting deaths of 35-year-old Jaimi Lynn Hurlbert and her 15-year-old daughter, Alyssa Burkett. The plea follows Judge Stewart Stadler's ruling earlier this month that Miller was mentally competent to stand trial.

Police say Miller used a .45-caliber handgun to kill Hurlbert and Burkett as they arrived at his mother's house, and the shooting followed months of problems between the couple. Wednesday's plea was not part of an agreement with prosecutors, so Miller still could face the death penalty.
