Man Jailed after Resisting Arrest and Assaulting an MHP Trooper

50 year-old Larry Denison is in the Missoula County Jail charged with three felonies and several misdemeanor and moving offenses after a traffic stop initiated by the Montana Highway Patrol on Friday evening.

MHP Captain Jim Kitchin described the incident that occurred near the intersection of Expressway and Airway just west of Missoula.

“At about 7:00 p.m. Friday night, there was a moving violation broadcast by a Missoula County Sheriff’s deputy, at which point Highway Patrol Sergeant Andrew Novak made contact with the driver, (later identified as Larry Denision), said Kitchin. “Sergeant Novak gave the individual certain commands which he did not follow. A scuffle ensued and several additional units responded to the scene and the driver was taken into custody. There were no injuries reported and the gentleman was booked into the Missoula County Jail.”

Kitchin said the law enforcement personnel from all agencies involved were able to get an individual off the road that posed a danger to other drivers.

“They took a guy off the road that apparently needed to be taken off the road, and they did a good job,” he said. “None of the troopers were injured. I know the city and county along with EMS all responded to that location and he was taken into custody and placed in jail.”

According to the Missoula County Jail roster, Denison has been charged with three felonies, including assault with a weapon, assault on a peace officer, and intimidation. He was also charged with four misdemeanors including obstructing a peace officer, DUI (first offense), resisting arrest and disorderly conduct including physical contact. He was also charged with four traffic offenses, including speeding, failure to obey a red (STOP) traffic signal, driving with a suspended or revoked drivers license, and operating with a foreign drivers license over 60 days.

Dennison will appear in Missoula Justice Court on Monday to hear the charges and have bond set for his felony complaints by the Justice of the Peace.
