Man Charged With Hitting Girlfriend With Truck

A 44-year-old Darby man is charged with negligent vehicular assault and partner or family member assault after his girlfriend was struck by a pickup truck over the weekend.

William Carl Sundermeyer Jr. was charged Tuesday for events that caused his girlfriend, Lisa Smith, to be hospitalized with possibly a broken pelvis and hip. His bail was set at $10,000.

Court records say Smith told a friend she was hit by a truck driven by Sundermeyer at about midnight Saturday. Smith told deputies it was an accident while Sundermeyer gave officers several versions of what happened.

Deputies reported seeing acceleration marks on the grass where it appears Sundermeyer drove between a house and a pump house, tearing off his side mirror and leaving tire marks on the house.
