Caught in the Act: Deputy Stops Suspect in Lolo Camper Theft
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 31, 2025, at 3:56 AM, a woman, Jane Doe, reported that her camper was stolen from a lot located in the 11000 block of Highway 93 South in Lolo. Doe described the camper as a 2015 Gulf Stream “Streamlite” camper. She said that her husband witnessed the camper theft. Doe further reported that the camper was towed away by a white Ford F-150.
A Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the stolen camper and F-150 truck traveling north on Reserve Street. The deputy followed the vehicle to the area of International Drive and Western Way, where the truck stopped.
The deputy activated his overhead lights and pulled in behind the camper. The deputy approached the F-150 truck and noticed that it did not have a rear license plate. He contacted the driver, later identified as 58-year-old Rodney Sherman, and explained why he was being stopped.
According to court documents, Sherman told the deputy that he was towing the camper for his friend. Sherman stated that he was supposed to tow the camper to the location where he stopped for a fee of $500. He stated that he had contacted his friend through a mutual friend. When asked if he had a phone number for his friend, he stated that he didn’t have a phone.
Then, the deputy observed a “For Sale” sign taped to the front side of the camper. Doe advised that the camper retails for $24,000 and that the fair market value is presently $15,000.
